Swimming Squads

Wellington Swimming Club is made up of a number of different squads and these are based on swimmers’ skills and abilities.

A new swimmer will be asked to attend a trial session, usually on a Tuesday, where they can demonstrate their current swimming skills and give our coaches the opportunity to accurately assess which group is most appropriate for them to begin their swimming club journey.

There are a number of factors that affect which group a swimmer will join, this includes fitness, commitment to train & stroke technique.

Our groups start at Development (limited availability in this group) where children are able to swim 3 strokes (front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke) to 50m, and go through to Squad which includes County, Regional & National swimmers.

 * Swimmers for the 1900 session will need to arrive ‘pool ready’ so they can come directly onto poolside from the viewing area - the changing rooms are not accessible before the session.

That means in costumes with hats and goggles and a dry robe or something similar to keep them warm.

Changing rooms can be used at the end of the 1900-2000 session and for the 2000-2100 session.

Swimmers are requested to be ready to enter poolside (pool ready) 5 minutes before starting their swimming session, please wait until a coach is present before going poolside.

Please make every effort to be on time for training as late arrivals distract the coaches and can disrupt the session if lane groupings need to be changed to accommodate the late swimmer.

Swimmers will be returned the changing rooms after their sessions and parents should be present to collect them. Swimmers are asked to change quickly and quietly when using the changing rooms.
